Know He Is

Recently I was reading Moroni chapter 10, and two lines lit my soul on fire. I was familiar with the beginning and end of that chapter, so on my way to the office I thought I would listen to the middle section again. As I did, verse seven — right after teaching that the Holy Ghost will teach you the truth of all things — boom. You may "know that He is, by the power of the Holy Ghost." Not know about Him. Know He is!

After hunting for decades, there it is — inside a single semicolon, two lines of one verse. You know that He is by the Holy Ghost. It is about revelation. I had thought "calling and election made sure" was akin to the mount of transfiguration, or some grand vision. I thought knowing the Lord was akin to the angel Moroni appearing in light to the boy Joseph.

Yes, we learn in chapter 10 that some are given the ministering of angels, and more. But it can be written no more plainly: by the Holy Ghost, you know He is. Thus, as you grow in knowing Him by revelation — which is to serve according to the words of Christ — you continue on the covenant path to becoming one with Him, as He became one with the Father.

Having this witness, and the hope of sitting on His right hand, opens the door to seeing with an "eye of faith." That eye permits you to see Him in yourself, and then in others. And this is not all: you begin to see God's hand in all things, which bringeth joy and a peace that surpasses understanding at all times.
